2 Kings 4

Six Daily Devotions

Devotional 1: Open Hands, Open Heart

2 Kings 4:10

The Shunammite woman didn't just offer a meal, but she built a room. A bed. A table. A lamp. She went further than she had to, and that is the very definition of generosity.

God hasn't blessed you just for your own comfort. He's blessed you so you can bless others — fully, thoughtfully, and without holding back.

Give, and it will be given to you. Luke 6:38 (NKJV)

Devotional 2: The Art of Insisting

2 Kings 4:8

She didn't just invite Elisha, she urged him. She made it easy to say yes.

Real hospitality understands that hurting people rarely ask for help. They wave off offers and quietly suffer alone. Sometimes the most Christlike thing you can do is lean in a little further and say, "No, really, I mean it."

Don't just open the door. Walk toward the person.

Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 1 Peter 4:9 (NKJV)

Devotional 3: Shut the Door

2 Kings 4:21

When her son died, she carried him upstairs and shut the door. No announcement. No wailing in public. Just faith behind a closed door.

Some battles cannot be fought in the open. Doubt needs an audience, faith needs a quiet room. What voices are drowning out what God has promised you?

Shut the door. Pray. Trust. He is still in the resurrection business.

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10 (NKJV)

Devotional 4: Serving Through the Pain

2 Kings 4:16

Elisha never knew she was barren. She had been serving him faithfully while carrying a private grief he never suspected.

Pain has a way of turning us inward. And sometimes it must. But the Shunammite woman shows us that suffering doesn't have to make us prisoners of ourselves. She kept showing up, and God was watching every quiet, painful, faithful step.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)

Devotional 5: It Is Well

2 Kings 4:26

Her son was dead. Yet when asked if all was well, she answered without hesitation, "It is well."

She wasn't in denial. She was standing on the promise God had already made. Her faith didn't require good circumstances, it operated in spite of them.

Whatever you're walking through today, let her words become yours. Worship before you reach for the answer.

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You. Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

Devotional 6: Tell What God Has Done

2 Kings 8:6

Standing before the king, when asked about the miracle in her life, Scripture records four simple words: "She told him."

She didn't minimize it. She didn't deflect. She told him what God had done — and it opened a door nothing else could have.

Your story matters. Someone today needs to hear what God has done in your life. When they ask, tell them.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Psalm 107:2 (NKJV)
